Gravesend Regatta Society - Fixed Seat Rowing
Gravesend Regatta Society - Traditional Fixed Seat Rowing has been set up to simplify the collection of rowing fees and to form a membership base, which can be used for organising Regattas and races.
In the past, rowers would always pay their training monies, of £1 per person, in cash, on the night. This was paid as you got into the boat and if you went out for more than one row, you paid £1 for EACH row.
Nowadays, to avoid the need for rowers to carry cash/small change on training nights, an annual membership fee is payable, at the start of each season. This fee essentially covers all mid-week and any weekend training sessions organised by Gravesend Regatta Society.
Training is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays plus extra sessions at weekends if enough crews are available to attend. If you wish to, you may row more than once during any training session.
The current fee is £50 PER SEASON. Across the rowing year, this works out to less than £2.00 per week and if you take advantage of 2/3 outings a week, you can see it is excellent value for money!
The Society runs the Gravesend Town Regatta, as well as other races/Regattas throughout the rowing season. Your membership allows you to take part in these races, for which the Society reserves the right to charge an additional race fee (advised to you in advance of entry) for those competitions.
N.B. Only these £5 sessions would need to be paid in cash, to a Committee member, prior to your row.
All fees collected go towards the maintenance of the skiffs/safety boats and the costs involved in the organisation of the Regattas and other races throughout the year.
